48. Monreale Cathedral or Duomo is dedicated to Santa Maria La Nuova, the patron saint of Palermo. The external appearance is similar to that of other Norman cathedrals, conveying the impression of a fortress. The main facade, flanked by two towers, faces west according to the medieval church plan.
