Icelanders love to soak in hot water. Many vacationers come in search of "natural" hot springs, but in fact these are quite rare. This pool, inside a cave near Lave Myvatn, used to be one of the few, and was very popular. But after the nearby eruptions in 1984, the water had become far too hot for humans. It is slowly cooling so the locals hope it will become usable within the next decade. Most of the "natural" soaks occur instead where water from hot springs mixes with creeks, so bathers can control the temperature by their location between the two flows.
