Above the town of Kirkjubaejarklaustur, lies Systrafos, the falls of the sisters. Legend tells us that many years ago, at the nunnery in the town, two sisters were burned for heresy. One had sold her soul to the devil, while the other had spoken blasphemously of the pope. Their ashes were scattered atop a rocky plateau; the ground holding the fist sister's ashes remains barren, while the other's bears wildflowers every year. This, it is said, is because the second sister was innocent of the charges against her.
