It may be that the transition from being simple farmers and fishermen to a technical society is a key element in understanding why Icelanders have so rapidly embraced a "green" political outlook and are now so conscious of their fragile environment. While we were visiting the icy fjords, a marketing team from BMW showed up. The company chose this remote spot on Iceland's south coast to take the photos of their new hydrogen powered sedan. But the Icelanders are ahead of the Germans - we saw hydrogen powered busses and even a hydrogen filling station in Reykjavik!
