The citizens of Reykjavik call the building atop the hill "The Pearl." The tanks below the silver hemisphere hold water heated geothermally at plants like the one at The Blue Lagooon. This 195 degree water is piped throughout the city to heat buildings. Along the way, it also serves to heat the streets and sidewalks to keep them free of snow and ice during the long winter.
