We took the elevator up eight stories to the top of the church spire to get this awesome view of Reykjavik (pronounced RAY-ka-vic). The colorful roofs are made of corrugated iron. It turns out that's the only material that will stand up to Iceland's fierce winter winds, which sometimes exceed 100 mph. The chimneys are no longer used for fires, but instead serve as mounts for TV antennas.
