From Ushuaia (previous page), we cruised to the Falkland Islands. Here we got our first views of penguins and other southern ocean inhabitants.

Our first landing in the Falklands was on New Island, at a beach sporting this impressive shipwreck. |
An old barn near the landing had recently lost its roof, but contained many quaint old fixtures. |
As we hiked across the fields filled with Upland Geese, we were treated to stunning views. |
Our destination was a Rockhopper Penguin rookery. |
We were able to observe Rockhoppers close-up. |
Many were raising chicks. |
There were King Cormorants among the penguins. |
The King Cormorants are also call "Blue Eyed Shags." |
Black-browed Albatrosses were also nesting here. |
Above, Southern Giant Petrels soared. |
This is what the Black-browed Albatross looks like in flight. |
A last look at a Rockhopper sunning himself. |

Our next Falkland Is. landing was on Carcass Island. The bird on the beach is a Brown Skua. These birds are known to feed on penguin and seabird chicks. |
We passed fields of these Diddle-dee Berries on one of our hikes on Carcass Island. |
These Gentoo penguins were in a big hurry to beat us across the trail. |
